They deal with sales reps for the lines you carry, find new lines, go to fashion shows and appointments at fashion showrooms to view clothes.They have to budget, do a rolling inventory (knowing how much stock to order, and when to reorder things), they also have to be risk takers, be able to trend forecast, and be fashion-forward themselves.A fashion merchandiser is a person who puts outfits together. In a small boutique, this may be the person who comes up with window displays. In a larger chain or corporate store, it's the person who determines how each chain store is going to display their clothes. It's the! person who decides what looks to put on mannequins, how to pair it with jewelry and accessories, and what fabrics/styles compliment each other.If you are looking at this as a career path, I would consider fashion buying.
