See what your state's estate limit is before it becomes taxable. An estate is valued what things are worth the day a person passes. Banks accounts, stocks,possessions etc are all part of her estate that will require a full accounting. Be prepared to spend a lot of time, there are many steps involved & many things can be done only during working hours so it may interfere with you work. Once the deadline for submitting debts is passed, you must set up a plan to pay these debts. Assets from the estate are used to pay the debts. Once all her debts are settled (it will take months) then you can focus on assets. Find someone who you can trust and knows antiques. Right now they are not worth much....wait until the economy improves. Selling them will be difficult depending upon where you live. Take the valuable ones out of the house...then hire someone to run an estate sale. That way you can sell everything without moving it, and empty the house. After that you can sell the house. You have LOTS of work before you. You must keep good financial records along the way.
