Rosie Travino: I definitely think that "genres" are very helpful, because if they didn't exist a lot of it would be trial and error. I think everyone dislikes at least one genre, and if there wasn't a name for that, it would suck having to sift through every band you have the option of hearing only to not be able to categorize it with all the other bands that sound similar and crappy. I don't like when a genre "defines" a person, but I do think the people that can easily be defined by the type of music they listen to, want to be defined that way (usually), or they wouldn't dress in the "uniform". For example if someone is dressed in a studed leather jacket with a mohawk, they want you to know that they're into punk. BQ1: Pop music. Not the kind of pop genre that includes t! een pop stars and boy bands. But stuff like Elvis Costello, Bowie, The Kinks. I guess some would say it's rock n' roll, maybe. But I would definitely classify it as pop music. BQ2: Goth clown rap, screamo. BQ3: I guess I don't really know what I'd consider Andrew W.K.? Coleen Carignan: Answering 4 years late. :)I sometimes feel like i am wasting my time searching for music.Especially, since i only seriously like about 1 out of 20 songs i search for.So, i only do it once in a great while.Its not super high on my priority list.A lot of music, like tv or movies, are crap!But, that 1 song i like goes into my playlist and slowly i am compiling my personal favorites collection.Am i wasting my time? Percy Seiger: music has been scientifically proven to relax people who are stressed.Generally people who don't see music as something good do not have the ability to appreciate music.So your parents are probably not going to understand where you are coming from. But they have to keep in mind that music is not bad.
