A TV box is for putting your computer screen on TV.If your talking about a TV-out card there is little difference with a TV converter box.If you have Windows Media, or Vista, a media extender is more functional. The extender uses your computer as a file server. Instead of just displaying you computer screen on the TV, It allows you to access you shared files remotely through a menu system.If you already have an XBOX 360 (a media extender), and one of those OS's, than you don't need any more hardware (beyond networking), you just need a patch for windows,! and your 360 can access your shared files just like any other video stored on it.Other media extenders are Apple TV, and some newer DVRs.
